Basic: ProofreadingÂ
Proofreading services provide a second set of eyes as a final review of a document prior to submission or publication. This includes correction and consistency of spelling, grammar and punctuation (e.g. spelling variations, hyphens, capitals, italics). The service will check for compliance with your publisher's guidance.

Intermediate: Proof-editingÂ
Our intermediate service is designed to improve academic language, style and tone. Edits refine text to be clear, concise, coherent and grammatically correct. Ambiguity and uncertainty will be highlighted with minor formatting issues corrected, such as paragraph structure and alignment. Improved word selection, removal of repetition and correction of errors in spelling and punctuation are all provided. The revised document undergoes a final proofread (see basic proofreading service details above) to ensure a well-written document appropriate for academic submission.

Advanced: Copy-editing
This is the most comprehensive service available. Proofreading and proof-editing are included with additional assistance given to improving the logical flow and format of your document. Some restructure of sentences and/or paragraphs (where appropriate) is expected and solutions are offered to ambiguous or contentious statements. Page numbering and cross-references to Figures or Tables within the main body of text will be thoroughly checked. Formatting and reorganisation will also be provided where required. The revised document will be subject to a final proofread to ensure a well-organised submission for academic publication.

Precis
This is a specialist service that rewrites your document more succinctly, without materially changing the narrative. It is commonly requested to ensure compliance with word limits or page restrictions set by an external assessor or reviewer. This service also benefits from all the features offered for advanced copy-editing.

Citations & References
An add-on service required by the majority of clients, citations/references are checked and corrected according to academic guidance. There are many reference formats, each subtly different from each other, making this a laborious editing task. To save you time, this service will check that each citation within your text has a corresponding reference, that full details are included for each reference and that the format is consistent and correct as dictated by your submission body.

Academic Job Applications
This service is tailored to the specific requirements of applying for jobs in academia. For example, MRes studentships, PhD scholarships, PDRA positions, Fellowships, Lecturer and more senior academic employment opportunities all require a nuanced approach. The draft CV and application documents will be reviewed against the person and job specification criteria, highlighting any gaps or weaknesses in the written information. Academic language, style and tone will be refined according to expectations within the sector. An iterative approach is essential to achieve a personalised, high-quality submission and 2 revision cycles are included in this service package.

Bespoke Service
Whilst the services described above focus on proofreading and editing for academic publication (essays, theses, journal articles, books chapters etc.), academics also navigate a range of other written submissions. Grant applications, award nominations, professional biographies, blog content etc. leave a lasting reputational footprint and therefore benefit from professional review. Client requests for the Bespoke Academic Service also include assistance with 'blank page syndrome', clarity analysis, simplification for accessibility of technical language, cross-checks against guidelines/criteria and more. As every project is unique, please 'Contact Us' to discuss your service needs.
